Asian Petanque Championship begins in Bhubaneswar

Cambodia women and Thailand men asserted supremacy on the opening day of the 1st Asian Petanque Championship at KIIT University campus here today. Cambodia won three matches in women’s doubles event, while Thailand registered three wins in men’s doubles event.

Host India won and lost one match each in Group-1 men’s doubles. In women’s doubles, India lost all three matches in Group-1. Organised by Petanque Federation of India (PFI), the championship was inaugurated by Odisha Sports & Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera.

KIIT University Registrar Prof Sasmita Samanta, PFI General Secretary Bharat J Chahuan, Income Tax Commissioner Debendra Kar and KIIT University Sports Director Dr Gaganendu Dash were present on the occasion.

RESULTS:

Women Doubles: Group-1: Cambodia bt India-II 13-8; Cambodia bt Iran 13-2; Cambodia bt Malaysia 13-10; Malaysia bt India-II 13-3; Malaysia bt Iran 13-1; Iran bt India-II 13-9.

Men Doubles: Group-1: Thailand bt India-I 13-1; Thailand bt Nepal 13-1; Thailand bt Malaysia 13-0; Malaysia bt Nepal-I 13-9; Malaysia bt Iran 13-2; India-I bt Nepal 13-3.
